Costa Rica
The Republic of Costa Rica is a captivating country in Central America and is true to its literal translation of “Rich Coast.” With one of the world’s highest literacy rates at 97%, it is a safe and exciting Central American destination and is ranked the greenest country in the world for its diversity of ecosystems including rain and cloud forests, spectacular volcanoes, hot springs and beautiful beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts.

Although often visited by Spanish language classes, Costa Rica is truly a remarkable science destination. The country contains 5% of the world’s biodiversity and our trained naturalists will lead your group through several significant sites. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is home to numerous orchid species, plus hundreds of different birds and including big cats and tapirs. Tortuguero National Park, important nesting site for the endangered green turtle, giant leatherbacks, hawksbills and loggerheads, is also home to three of Costa Rica’s monkey species, both the three-toed and two-toed sloth and reptiles including the world’s fastest living lizard, the spiny-tailed iguana. And Arenal Volcano with spectacular almost-daily eruptions that light up the sky like you’ve never experienced!

Foreign language students also benefit from a trip to Costa Rica and the interaction with its hospitable population. Spanish is the official language of Costa Rica and a CTA-arranged visit to a public school, sometimes including lunch and a mini-exchange with a friendly game of futbol , can forge unions between cultures and offer one-on-one conversational opportunities.
